Nurses across the country are dealing with burnout, staffing shortages, and high demands and strains on the overall healthcare system. This leaves little time to investigate any new license renewal rules and requirements.

For Alabama RNs and LPNs whose licenses expire in 2024, a lapse in licensure not only means having to contact the board, but also the inability to continue practice nursing.

That’s why the Nursing CE Central team has created a full list of questions, CE requirements, last day to renew, and consequences of missing the deadline for the 2024 Alabama nursing license renewal period.

According to the Alabama Board of Nursing, any nurse who does not renew their license before 4:30pm on December 31, 2024 will have their license lapse. Nurses will “no longer be legally authorized to practice with a lapsed nursing license.”

1. What are the 2024 CE Requirements for Renewal?

Nurses must complete 24 contact hours of continuing education every 2 years. 4 of the hours must be on the Alabama Nurse Practice Act provided by the Board of Nursing for those renewing for the first time. Nursing CE Central provides a link to this course in the bundle.

(Nursing CE Central’s Alabama Renewal Bundle includes all of these required courses.)

2. Which Nurses Are Required to Obtain CE to Renew Their License?

RNs and LPNs must complete CE to renew their licenses.

3. Is a Test Needed to Complete the CE Requirements for the 2024 Alabama Nursing License Renewal?

Yes. Nurses are required to take a test on the four contact hour Alabama Nurse Practice Act course to fulfill their CE requirements.

4. Does Nursing CE Central submit proof of completed CEUs automatically to the Alabama Board of Nursing? Or will I have to manually do that myself??

As an Alabama Board of Nursing-approved CE provider, Nursing CE Central automatically reports all CEU completions directly to the Alabama Board of Nursing, making your renewal process as easy as possible.

5. Is Nursing CE Central an Alabama Board of Nursing-Approved Provider?

Yes! Courses from Nursing CE Central are approved and accepted by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
