Course Overview

In this course, we will cover a variety of nursing topics pertinent in the state of Florida, which are listed in the course outline below. This course is appropriate for APRNs and RNs and meets the Florida requirements for domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, Florida Laws and Regulations, Medical Error Prevention,  Recognizing Impairment in the Workplace, and Human Trafficking training. Upon completion of this single module you will receive a certificate for 29 contact hours, including 18 Pharmacology contact hours.

Course Outcomes

After completing this course, the learner will rate a 4 out of 5 on the Likert Scale for their ability to:

  1. Identify different types of domestic violence.
  2. Have an increased understanding of the Florida HIV/AIDS requirements, the importance of infection reporting, and the basics of treatment as required by the Florida Board of Nursing.
  3. Understand the Nurse Practice Act as it pertains to nursing practice.
  4. Recognize factors that impact the occurrence of medical errors.
  5. Understand and define the difference between substance abuse, addiction, drug diversion, and impairment.
  6. Define types of human trafficking, trends, and statistics within the United States and the State of Florida.

  8. Describe factors when prescribing opioids, their indications, and their effects.

  12. Demonstrate understanding of the neurobiological and pathophysiological mechanisms underlying migraines.
  13. Describe common side effects, including severe possible side effects, of medications used to manage asthma
  14. Describe common side effects, including severe possible side effects, of SSRIs
  15. Differentiate between uncomplicated and complicated UTI and summarize key considerations when prescribing antibiotics for UTI.
