Here are the Alabama RN License Renewal Requirements
Licensed Vocational/Practical Nurses
- LVN/LPNs are required to complete 24 contact hours of Continuing Education every 2 years.
- This is provided by the Alabama Board of Nursing and can be found here.
- 4 of the 24 contact hours must be on The Nurse Practice Act. (one-time requirement)
Registered Nurses
- RNs are required to complete 24 contact hours of Continuing Education every 2 years.
- This is provided by the Alabama Board of Nursing and can be found here.
- 4 of the 24 contact hours must be on The Nurse Practice Act. (one-time requirement)
Advanced Practice Registered Nurses
- APRNs are required to complete 24 contact hours of general Continuing Education every 2 years.
- APRNs in Collaborative Practice must complete 3.5 contact hours provided by ABN on collaborative practice, approval process and protocols in the state of Alabama.
- These 3 courses are provided by the Alabama Board of Nursing and can be found here
- APRNs renewing a Qualified Alabama Controlled Substances Certificate (QACSC) must complete 4 AMA PRA Category 1 board-approved contact hours on prescribing controlled substances every 2 years.
- List of approved courses can be found here
- 6 of the contact hours must be in pharmacology
- 4 of the 24 contact hours must be on The Nurse Practice Act. (one-time requirement)
- APRNs in Collaborative Practice must complete 3.5 contact hours provided by ABN on collaborative practice, approval process and protocols in the state of Alabama.
