Course Overview

Head injuries are a serious public health problem and are the major cause of hospital admissions for trauma patients seen in the emergency room. This course will explore how head injuries are caused, the types of head injuries, and the assessment and management of head injuries in the emergency room. We will also look at the differences between head injuries and traumatic brain injuries. This course will outline different assessments and exams that can and are used in the emergency room to help identify if a head injury was sustained and the severity of the injury.
