Course Outcomes
After completing this course, the learner will rate a 4 out of 5 on the Likert Scale for their ability to:
- Discuss the different forms of domestic abuse and provide examples of each
- Discuss various demographic factors such as gender, age, race, and location in relation to risk of being a victim of abuse
- Explore prevalence of victimization among LGBTQ clients and why there is limited data on abuse within these relationships
- Identify methods of abuse that are unique for disabled clients and transgender clients
- Identify acute health implications of domestic abuse
- Explain long term or chronic health implications of domestic abuse
- Discuss violence-related injuries and risks that are unique to pregnancy
- Explore risk factors that make a person more likely to become a perpetrator of abuse
- Discuss the abuse cycle and various ways perpetrators maintain power and control over their victims
- Identify screening tools that exist and the populations they are targeted towards, and recognize populations without effective screening tools
