Contact Hours: 3

Course Overview

Cases of diabetes mellitus continue to increase steadily throughout the world, and approximately 1.5 million deaths are directly attributed to diabetes annually. (1) Diabetes ketoacidosis, a potentially life-threatening complication of uncontrolled diabetes, requires prompt recognition and emergency management to reduce long-term complications. Diabetes ketoacidosis is, however, preventable in the majority of cases, and ongoing patient and family education and support lower the rates of occurrence and severity of complications. This course, intended for LPNs, RNs, and APRNs, will outline DKA management.
