Course Overview

Emergency Preparedness in Home Health

Author: Pamela Halvorson RN, BS, MBA

This Emergency Preparedness course is appropriate for RN’s, LPN’s, PT’s, OT’s and APRN’s and describes the preventative measures needed to reduce the effects of a disaster on a home health agency and create a plan that makes the most of resources and time to continue to serve vulnerable home health clients. It involves identifying potential risks along with the identification of the most vulnerable clients and developing strategies and protocols for responding during emergencies or disasters.

Having a plan in place allows for quick and decisive action when there is an emergency. Clear protocols help reduce confusion and ensure a structured response. In addition, reviewing the plan regularly and updating it along with practice will ensure its effectiveness so all members of the home health agency know their role and how to respond.
