Course Overview
Author: Amanda Marten MSN, FNP-C
Healthcare professionals, including LPNs, RNs, and APRNs, who care for people who have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more should be aware of the signs, symptoms, and comorbidities associated with obesity. They should understand treatment options, including gastric sleeve surgery. Gastric sleeve surgery can help patients lose weight and improve patient outcomes, including morbidity and mortality. Post-surgery, nurses must understand patient care considerations and be able to identify early and late signs of complications.
This course reviews gastric sleeve considerations, including obesity, eligibility for surgery, clinical signs and symptoms, complications, and management for all levels of nursing.
