Course Overview

Upon successful completion of this course, learners will understand the use of ketamine in the hospital environment and the history of its use in medicine. They will also be able to identify when ketamine use is warranted and the nursing care necessary for the patient who has received it. In addition, nurse learners will understand the management of the pediatric patient receiving ketamine, along with special considerations for this population.

The course will also provide learners with the necessary information to deliver effective patient and family education when ketamine is used for sedation. Furthermore, it will examine trends in recent ketamine use outside of the hospital setting, along with addiction considerations.

This course is intended for LPN/LVNs, RNs, and APRNs managing patients in settings where ketamine is administered for anesthetic purposes or nurses taking over care of the patient who has been administered ketamine.
