Course Overview

Upon successful completion of this course, learners will have a solid foundation and understanding of surgical laminectomy and the importance of pain management post-procedure. They will be able to discuss and address pain management strategies, both pharmacological and non-pharmacological, along with post-operative care. This course will provide an overview of safe opiate use and cessation post-laminectomy.

Learners will have a comprehensive understanding of nursing considerations related to laminectomy patients and pertinent patient education. Nurses taking this course will also gain an understanding of contraindications for laminectomy along with associated risks. Emerging trends will also be reviewed.

This course is designed for LPNs, RNs, and APRNs who manage patients receiving or who have received a laminectomy. This includes but is not limited to Surgical, PACU, ED, Medical-Surgical, Orthopedic, or ICU nurses.
