Course Overview

Multicystic dysplastic kidney disease (MCDK) is a common congenital renal condition. Nurses caring for patients at any stage of life may encounter patients with MCDK. Improving knowledge of this diagnosis can improve nursing practice and patient care quality.  

This course will define multicystic dysplastic kidney disease and differentiate it from other congenital renal anomalies. We will identify risk factors, diagnostic methods, signs and symptoms, treatment options, and complications of this disease. We will also review the prognosis, necessary patient education, current research, and the nurse’s role in caring for patients with multicystic dysplastic kidney disease.
