Contact Hours: 3

Course Overview

This course, Paroxysmal Sympathetic Hyperactivity After Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), is intended for nursing professionals in the acute rehabilitation setting. It covers the spectrum of care for clients with PSH, from intensive care management of TBI to management of PSH in an acute rehabilitation unit.

PSH is historically underdiagnosed and undermanaged due to a lack of standardized terminology, an incomplete understanding of its pathophysiology, and a lack of research. This course will help nursing professionals practicing in acute rehabilitation units recognize the signs of PSH, understand the recommended steps in managing PSH, and provide a review of current literature on proposed PSH scoring tools following a case study of a client who sustained a severe TBI during a football game.
