Course Overview

This course will provide an overview of the importance of patient education in preventing cancer. It will begin with an explanation of why this is significant and thoroughly examine the nurse’s role in the education process. Risk factors will be identified, and strategies to mitigate risk will be discussed. Screening guidelines and early detection will be reviewed. A further look will be given at specific measures that can be taken to prevent some of the most common cancers. The genetic contribution will be evaluated. Other resources to support the emotional and psychological health of the patient and suggestions for additional resources will be provided.
