Course Overview

If you work in the perioperative field, you are likely familiar with peripheral nerve blocks, a procedure commonly performed for orthopedic surgeries. This course, designed for LPNs, RNs, and APRNs, will explore the various types of peripheral nerve blocks. We will review the relevant anatomy of each block, along with the pharmacology of the medications typically used in these procedures.

The course will also outline the essential steps nurses should take for pre-procedure preparation, during the procedure itself, and post-procedure monitoring of patients receiving nerve block. Key topics such as local anesthetic toxicity and potential complications of a peripheral nerve block will be addressed. Additionally, this course will provide valuable points for patient education for nurses involved in caring for patients undergoing a nerve block procedure.
