Course Overview

This Texas Human Trafficking course is approved by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) per the Texas Occupations Code as of August 19, 2025. With this approval, the course is on the list of HHSC-approved trainings for health care practitioner licensure renewal requirements.

This course is designed for healthcare providers practicing in the State of Texas. It is intended to highlight key demographics of human trafficking victims and perpetrators and to identify red flags that may be indicators of trafficking. Additionally, response and follow-up to this situation are discussed, as are resources available at the state and federal levels. Throughout the course, the practitioner will review concepts of trauma-informed, patient-centered care when dealing with these vulnerable populations often seen in healthcare settings.

This course was developed with the one-hour consultation of a human trafficking survivor. This partnership was made possible through the Survivor Alliance Network at https://www.survivoralliance.org/ (45). Engaging with a survivor has ensured that this training is patient-centered and trauma-informed.
