Transcutaneous Pacing Review

Contact Hours: 2

Author(s):

Sandy A. Salicco, MSN, RN, CCRN

Course Overview

This course will introduce transcutaneous pacing, including the rationale, use, maintenance, and removal of the transcutaneous pacemaker (TCP). Guidelines for rhythm recognition, step-by-step application and troubleshooting will be presented. Resources from reliable manufacturers of these devices, as well as research articles will be utilized to provide needed information. A LPN/LVN may take general care of a patient with TCP, such as administer ADLs, but an RN or APRN must manage the operation and care of TCP. It is also highly recommended that the nurse caring for the patient using TCP should be certified in a basic cardiac rhythm course.
