Vaccine Myths and Facts
Contact Hours: 2
Course Overview
Historically, medical providers were the primary source of information on vaccinations. This has shifted to individuals more easily accessing vaccination information. The concern with readily accessible information is that it can incorporate inaccuracies, creating vaccine myths. Myths surrounding vaccinations can have a negative impact, especially on vulnerable populations. Sources, such as recommendations from the Advisory Committee on Immunizations (ACIP) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), are excellent resources on accurate information.
This course addresses common vaccine myths and research that supports vaccine safety and efficacy. Healthcare workers must understand the human immune system, specifically immunologic memory, and the two main types of vaccines. Most importantly, this course addresses vaccine hesitancy through a presumptive approach and motivational interviewing.
