Licensed Vocational/Practical Nurses

• LVN/LPNs are required to complete 36 contact hours of Continuing Education every 3 years.
• 2 of the 36 contact hours must be on Identification and Reporting of Child and Dependent Adult Abuse if you regularly examine, attend, counsel, or treat children or dependent adults.
• This Mandatory Reporter Course is offered by the Iowa Department of Human Services and can be found here.

Registered Nurses

• RNs are required to complete 36 contact hours of Continuing Education every 3 years.

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses

• APRNs are required to maintain their certification.
• APRNs are required to complete a course on Identification and Reporting of Child and Dependent Adult Abuse if you regularly examine, attend,
  counsel, or treat children or dependent adults.
  • This Mandatory Reporter Course is offered by the Iowa Department of Human Services and can be found here.
  • APRNs with prescriptive authority are required to complete 2 contact hours each renewal cycle on opioid prescribing.
  • APRNs that supervise fluoroscopy procedures must complete annual training.
