RNs are required to complete coursework in infection control and barrier precautions every 4 years.

  • There are no set hours for this requirement as long as the course has the minimum seven core elements and is approved by NYSED.
  • Prior to being issued a license, nurses who did not graduate from a nursing education program registered by NYSED after 09/01/1990 will need to complete a 2-hour course on child abuse reporting (one time requirement).
