What Are Nursing Blogs?
Nursing blogs are platforms where a nurse writes about their experience in the nursing field and shares their viewpoints on current nursing issues and trends to inform and inspire others.
Why Did I Start Writing for Nursing Blogs?
I began nurse blogging a few months ago when I came across an opportunity online. When I saw the opportunity to begin writing about my nursing experience, I immediately became excited.
Writing has always been a passion of mine; growing up I loved to write, and I was one of the few students who enjoyed writing book reports and doing other writing assignments. While I was completing my nursing degree, I took a creative writing class just for fun and to expand my writing skills.
I feel very privileged to be able to combine two of my passions in life and have others learn from my experiences.
What Are the Benefits of Writing for Nursing Blogs?
Creative Outlet
Writing nurse content is a wonderful way to highlight your personality and talent as a writer. The more you write, the more ideas will come to you and the more comfortable you will be with writing. I think of it much like journaling, except you are sharing your experience with others and teaching in the process.
Stand Out on Your Resume
Once you have a few published nursing articles, you can add the links to view them on your resume or mention in your cover letter that you have been writing nurse articles. This will make you stand out as a potential candidate for the position you are applying for; especially if any of the articles relate to the position or specialty.
Therapeutic
It can be very therapeutic to share your thoughts and experiences in nursing. It helps you reflect on your nursing career thus far and everything you have learned as a nurse. It is extremely rewarding to look back on your writing and see what you have been able to achieve.
Support & Inspire Others
Other nurses can relate to your experiences and may find support and resources to help them manage issues they are dealing with in nursing by reading your articles. Sharing your writing with other co-workers can also help you form better work relationships and give you something to discuss. You may even inspire others to become nurses.
Additional Benefits of Writing for Nursing Blogs
Advance Your Communication Skills
As you write, you will notice you are learning new ways to communicate your thoughts effectively on paper. Being able to verbally communicate with someone face to face is a bit different than writing your thoughts down. You may find that writing helps you become a better face to face communicator as you expand your vocabulary and way of speaking.
Content Availability
Aside from your own nursing experience; there are so many topics and current issues in nursing that there is no shortage of topics to discuss. You are likely to always find a subject you are passionate about to share with others. There are also many different viewpoints and angles you can use to share your expertise.
On Your Own Time
Unlike your main nursing job, writing nurse articles can be done on your own time. You do not need to follow a strict schedule; you can write as many or as few articles as you want in any given time frame. I don’t know of many nursing jobs where you can dictate your own schedule.
Doesn’t Feel Like Work
If you are passionate about writing and enjoy it as a hobby, it truly won’t feel like you are working. You will look forward to it and look at it as an enjoyable side hobby when you are not working.
The Bottom Line
In conclusion, writing for nursing blogs can be an extremely rewarding and enjoyable side job. Nurse blogging does allow opportunities for bringing in an income, but that should not be your main motivator for doing it. The best nurse bloggers are the ones who enjoy writing as much as nursing.
I hope after reading the reasons for becoming a nurse blogger, I have given you valuable insight and information into how writing for nursing blogs can help you in your career as a nurse. If you resonate with the reasons in this article, then go for it! You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
