7. How do I ensure that I completed all steps for renewal?

According to the Ohio Board of Nursing, you can check your renewal status through your Ohio eLicense account. If the expiration date listed shows 2023, “it means either you have not started to renew; you have not completed the renewal process; or you have not placed your license on inactive status.”

Fees must be paid online at the time of renewal. If you submit your application without payment, your application will be marked as incomplete and will not be processed.

While the official deadline for renewal is October 31, 2023, licensees who file on or after September 16, 2023 will incur an additional $50 ‘late processing fee’ in addition to the standard $65 renewal fee.

15. What do I do with my proof-of-completion for required Continuing Eduation Units (CEUs)?

The Ohio Board of Nursing license renewal requires that all nurses keep a personal copy of CEU completion for six years, in which they may conduct a continuing education audit at any time. This documentation is required to be sent to the Board within 60 days after an audit notice is sent to an Ohio nurse.

Most nurses will only need 24 contact hours of continuing education, one of which must meet the Ohio Nurse Practice Act requirements, along with a valid form of payment, to reinstate their license through the Ohio eLicense portal (https://elicense.ohio.gov).

18. How much does a license reinstatement cost?

20. Why isn’t the Ohio BON waiving Continuing Education Units (CEUs) requirements this year?

21. Is the latest COVID surge impacting any license procedures in Ohio?

Nurses who hold an active, valid license in a state other than Ohio will still be authorized to practice in Ohio without an Ohio nursing license throughout the duration of the federal declaration of emergency for COVID-19.
