The Texas BON is responsible for:

Licensing:

The BON issues licenses to graduates of approved nursing education programs and to nurses licensed in other states seeking Texas licensure. All nurses are required to renew their license biennially with proper evidence of required continuing education.

School Approval:

The BON approves schools of nursing which prepare nurses for initial entry into the nursing profession.

Enforcement:

The BON strictly enforces the Nursing Practice Act and Rules and Regulations, setting standards for nursing practice and nursing education as well as conducts investigations against nursing complaints.

Information:

The BON provides information on their website, including information regarding the Nursing Practice Act, BON Rules, Guidelines, position statements, as well as disciplinary and licensure information.
