NCC News & Content Team
The 2024 Kansas nursing license renewal requirements exist for good reason. Our nurses must keep up as best practices evolve, so they are empowered to provide the highest level of care for their patients.Â
However, we know you are facing burnout, staffing shortages and the high demands of a complex healthcare system. Nursing CE Central offers quick, effective courses that earn Kansas nursing CEUs.Â
If a Kansas nurse misses their renewal deadline, their license will become inactive. Only an active license may be renewed, thus a license reinstatement is required.
1. What are the CEU requirements for the 2024 Kansas nursing renewal period?
LPNs and RNs are required to complete 30 contact hours of continuing education every two years for the Kansas nursing license renewal.
Nursing CE Central’s Kansas Renewal Bundle includes LPN license renewal CE and RN license renewal CE.
APRNs are also required to complete 30 contact hours of continuing education. All CE must be related to the advanced practice nurse role.
Nursing CE Central’s Kansas APRN Bundle includes APRN license renewal CE.
2. Is Nursing CE Central a Kansas Board of Nursing-approved provider?
Yes. Courses from Nursing CE Central are approved and accepted by the Kansas Board of Nursing.
3. How can I renew my license?
You can renew your nursing license online at the KSBN Portal.
4. What happens if I don’t renew my nursing license before its current expiration date?
Your license will expire the last day of the month you were born, and you cannot practice in the state of Kansas.Â
5. How can I get my license active again?
To reinstate an expired license, you must fill out a reinstatement application on the KSBN Portal, submit proof of completed CEUs, and pay the required reinstatement fees.
For RNs and LPNs, the fees are $150 to reinstate a license with or without a temporary permit. For APRNs, there’s a $75 fee for reinstatement of a license without a temporary permit.
6. What do I need to have ready when starting my Kansas nursing license renewal online?
Most nurses will only need to have fulfilled their required 30 hours of continuing nursing education and have a valid method of payment ready.
7. How can I check that my renewal is complete?
You can check the status of your nursing licensure renewal application through the KSBN Portal. Nursing license lookups can be viewed on the KSBN verification website.
8. Do I have to keep documentation proving I completed my nursing continuing education requirements?
Yes. Each nurse is responsible for keeping records of continuing education completion, in case the Kansas Board of Nursing requests them. Nursing CE Central suggests keeping these records for a minimum of three years, should a nurse be selected for an audit.
