The 2024 Maryland nursing license renewal requirements exist for good reason. Our nurses must keep up as best practices evolve, so they are empowered to provide the highest level of care for their patients.

However, we know you are facing burnout, staffing shortages and the high demands of a complex healthcare system. Nursing CE Central offers quick, effective courses that earn Maryland nursing CEUs.

Nurses have a one-time requirement to complete an implicit bias course that’s board approved.

1. What are the continuing education requirements for the 2024 Maryland nursing license renewal?

LPNs and RNs must meet continuing education competency requirements to renew their license. While several options exist to meet this requirement, most nurses choose to complete 30 contact hours of continuing education from an ANCC and Maryland Board of Nursing-approved provider (such as Nursing CE Central).

Nurses also have a one-time requirement to complete an implicit bias course that’s board approved. These hours can go toward the CE requirement.

Nursing CE Central’s Maryland Renewal Bundle includes LPN license renewal CE and RN license renewal CE.

There are no continuing education requirements for APRNs at this time. However, providers must maintain current and provide proof of national certification for license renewal.

APRNs also must complete a board-approved implicit bias course as part of a one-time requirement.

2. Is Nursing CE Central a Maryland Board of Nursing-approved provider?

Yes.

3. How can I renew my license?

RNs and LPNs must complete an online application through the state’s Online License Renewal System by the 28th of their birth month.

The Maryland Board reports it takes 48-72 hours to process renewal applications.

LPNs pay a $110 renewal fee, while RNs pay a $136 fee that includes a $26 Maryland Health Care Commission fee. APRNs must pay a $146 renewal fee plus $10 for each additional APRN certification.

5. Am I required to complete a test for my Maryland CE requirements?

No. You can easily complete your Maryland CE requirements with just one click.

6. Do I need to submit my certificates of completion when I renew?

No. You only need to attest that you have met the continuing education requirements.

7. Do I have to keep documentation proving I completed my 2024 Continuing Education Requirements for renewal?

Yes. Nursing CE Central suggests keeping these records for a minimum of three years in case you are selected for an audit.

8. How can I check that my renewal application is complete?

You can verify your license at Look up a License. Allow one to three days for processing.

9. What happens if I don’t renew my license before its current expiration date?

Maryland allows a 30-day extension period beyond the expiration date for a licensee to renew. If you do not renew within this timeframe, your license will expire.

10. How can I get my license active again?

To reinstate an expired license, you must complete a reinstatement application online and pay the renewal fee.

11. What happens to my license if I miss the renewal deadline?

If you did not renew on time, your license is considered expired. You cannot practice with an expired license in the state of Maryland. You will have to apply for reinstatement.
