1. What are the continuing education requirements for the 2024 Mississippi nursing license renewal? 

LPNs and RNs are only required to complete 20 contact hours of continuing education if they have been out of practice for five or more years.

4. When is the 2024 license renewal deadline?

LPNs renew in odd numbered years. The renewal period runs from Sept. 1, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2025.

RNs and APRNs renew in even numbered years. The renewal period runs from Sept. 1, 2024, through Dec. 31, 2024. 

The renewal fee is $100. 

5. Are nurses required to complete a test to fulfill the Mississippi CE requirements?

No. The Mississippi Board of Nursing doesn’t require a test to complete CE requirements. 

6. Do nurses need to use CE Broker to submit their completed continuing education certificates?

It’s optional to use CE Broker to submit completed certificates for license renewal.

7. Is Nursing CE Central a Mississippi Board of Nursing-approved provider?

Yes.

8. How can I renew my License with the Mississippi Board of Nursing?

You can renew your license online on the state’s Licensee Gateway. 

9. How can I check that my renewal application is complete?

You can check your application status through the Licensee Gateway. Allow seven to 10 business days for the board to process your application.  

10. What happens if I don’t renew my license before its current expiration date?

If you fail to renew your license on time, you’ll have to pay a late renewal fee as follows:  

  • Late Renewal 1: Jan. 1-30 with a $100 renewal fee plus a $50 late renewal 1 administrative fee. 
  • Late Renewal 2: Feb. 1-June 30 with a $100 renewal fee plus a $150 late renewal 2 administrative fee. A criminal background check (with a $75 fee) is required for all late renewal 2 applications. 

11. What happens to my license if I miss both late renewal deadlines?

If you didn’t renew your nursing license during the allowed late renewal period, your license will become inactive. You cannot practice in the state of Mississippi until it is reinstated.  

12. How can I get my license reinstated?

You need to submit a reinstatement application online on the nurse portal. The reinstatement fee is $100 for RN/LPNs and includes a criminal background check.
