The 2024 Nevada nursing license renewal requirements exist for good reason. Our nurses must keep up as best practices evolve, so they are empowered to provide the highest level of care for their patients.Â
However, we know you are facing burnout, staffing shortages and the high demands of a complex healthcare system. Nursing CE Central offers quick, effective courses that earn Nevada nursing CEUs.Â
LPNs and RNs must complete 30 contact hours of continuing education from an approved BON provider (such as Nursing CE Central) every two years.
1. What are the continuing education requirements for the 2024 Nevada nursing license renewal?Â
LPNs and RNs must complete 30 contact hours of continuing education from an approved BON provider (such as Nursing CE Central) every two years.Â
Four of the 30 contact hours must be a Nevada-BON approved cultural competency course. A list of approved providers can be found here.Â
There is also a one-time, four-contact-hour bioterrorism requirement for those renewing for the first time.Â
Two of the hours must be on the stigma, discrimination, and bias toward those with HIV.Â
Nursing CE Central’s Nevada Renewal Bundle includes LPN license renewal CE and RN license renewal CE.  Â
APRNs are required to complete 45 contact hours of continuing education every two years under the following criteria. Thirty of those hours are part of complying with RN renewal requirements.Â
The additional 15 hours must be related to their specialty area, including: Â
- Two hours on suicide prevention (required every four years, or every two renewals).Â
- Two hours on substance use and abuse.Â
Nursing CE Central’s Nevada APRN Bundle includes APRN license renewal CE.Â
2. Is Nursing CE Central a Nevada Board of Nursing-approved provider?
Yes! Courses from Nursing CE Central are approved and accepted by the Nevada Board of Nursing.Â
3. What do I need to have ready when starting my renewal online with the Nevada Board of Nursing?
Most nurses will only need fulfilled continued competency requirements, along with a valid method of payment, to complete their renewal online.Â
The LPN and RN renewal fee is $100. The APRN renewal fee is $200.Â
4. When does my license expire?
Your license expires every two years from the date it was originally issued. You can renew your license up to 60 days before it expires. The Board of Nursing will send you a reminder prior to expiration.Â
5. How can I renew my license? Can I mail in a paper renewal application?
No. According to the Nevada Board of Nursing, you must renew online using the Nurse Portal. Please allow seven business days for processing.
6. Can I renew now and complete my CEUs later?
No. All Nevada nurses must complete their CE requirements before they renew their license.Â
7. Am I required to complete a test or quiz for my Nevada CE requirements?
No. Nevada does not require nurses to complete a test to earn CE. Nursing CE Central’s Nevada Renewal Bundles do not require any test-taking.Â
8. Do I need to submit my certificates of completion when I renew?
No. The Board does not require you to submit proof when renewing your license. You will only need to attest that you have completed the continuing education requirement.Â
9. Do I have to keep documentation proving I completed my 2024 CE requirements for renewal?
Yes. All Nevada nurses must save proof of CE completion for a minimum of four years. The Board of Nursing randomly selects licensees for an audit of continuing education records. If audited, you must submit proof of having met the continuing education requirements to the board.Â
10. How can I check that my renewal application is complete?
You can verify your license status through the Nurse Portal.Â
11. What happens if I don’t renew my license before its current expiration date?
If you missed the renewal deadline, your license is now expired. You cannot practice until the BON has renewed or reinstated your license.Â
