What are the CE requirements for nurses in Washington, DC?
RNs must complete 24 contact hours of CE. Two must be on LGBTQ topics or cultural competence, and three must be on HIV/AIDs or director’s topics.
LPNs must complete 18 contact hours of CE. Three must be on LGBTQ topics or cultural competence. Nursing CE Central’s Washington, DC Renewal Bundle includes all required courses.

Are tests required?
No. The Washington DC Board of Nursing does not require that tests be taken in order to issue certificates. We do not feel that tests are an efficient use of nurses’ time. Therefore, we do not require tests. You simply need to read the material and certify you have learned the material with one click.
Does Washington, DC accept CEUS from Nursing CE Central
Yes! CE courses from Nursing CE Central are approved and accepted by the Washington, DC Board of Nursing.
When is the last day to renew my license?
Registered nurses must renew their nursing licenses by June 30th, 2024.
What happens if I don't renew my license before its current expiration date?
If a nurse does not renew their license by June 30th, DC allows nurses a sixty-day grace period to renew but they will have to pay a $85 late fee.
Can I work with a lapsed license?
No, if a nurse does not renew their license by the deadline or within the sixty-day grace period, their license will be considered lapsed, and they cannot continue to work until it is reinstated.
They will have to apply for reinstatement and pay a $280 application fee (includes criminal background check).
How do I complete a course?
Once you enroll you will have access to all courses. To complete a course you read and learn the course materials, then testify that you have done so by clicking a button. Once this is finished your certificate will be issued.
How do I access my certificates once a course is completed?
Your certificate will be instantly emailed to you once you complete a course. Additionally, it is available online for you to access at any time. We keep a record of your certificates for five years.
Are the courses timed?
No. Users may complete the courses at their own pace. Nursing CE Central does not monitor your time spent in courses.
What is your refund policy?
Nursing CE Central is happy to offer you a refund if the courses do not meet your state licensing requirements.
