What is Aesthetic Nursing?

My practice in this niche area of nursing began in 2017, and I’ve seen it grow by a minimum of 10% every year. Demand for these services has grown exponentially since the COVID-19 pandemic and the increased use of Zoom for work. Services include a wide range of non-invasive and minimally invasive procedures such as Botox injections, dermal fillers, laser treatments, chemical peels, and skincare regimens.

The goal of these procedures is to improve the appearance of the skin, help reduce the signs of aging, correct imperfections and overall enhance facial features. In addition, the patient should appear refreshed and rested.

Responsibilities of Aesthetic Nursing

As an aesthetic practitioner, I work closely with patients to assess their needs, develop customized treatment plans, and deliver safe and effective care. Clients are seeking our services to help them look their best. My goal is educating them about different treatment options, potential risks and benefits, and expected outcomes. In addition to performing clinical procedures, it is expected and common that you will act as counselors and confidants to your clients, listening to their concerns, addressing their insecurities and offering emotional support throughout the treatment process.

Every client is different and it’s my job to make them feel heard and valued. It truly is an honor to be on this journey with them.

The field of aesthetic nursing is an ever growing and demanding field. This field requires an understanding of facial anatomy, physiology, and the latest advancements in cosmetic procedures.

The industry trends, technologies, and regulations to deliver high-quality care are ever changing. Continuing education is paramount in this area for professional growth. In addition, aesthetic nurses can pursue specialized training, certifications, and advance degrees to expand their knowledge and skills. Also, finding a mentor(s) for guidance and support helps increase the chance for success in this highly competitive field.

Challenges of Aesthetic Nursing

Aesthetic nursing is not without its challenges. Many are drawn to this specialty with the allure of easy money and little stress. However, this could not be further from the truth.

Clients can be quite demanding and sometimes have unrealistic expectations. Managing patient expectations along with education are paramount in aesthetic nursing. The challenges are worth it when you consider the ability to positively affect clients’ lives, boosting their self-esteem, and empowering them to feel comfortable in their own skin.
