The 2024 Alabama nursing license renewal requirements exist for good reason. Our nurses must keep up as best practices evolve, so they are empowered to provide the highest level of care for their patients.Â
However, we know you are facing burnout, staffing shortages and the high demands of a complex healthcare system. Nursing CE Central offers quick, effective courses that earn Alabma nursing CEUs.Â
According to the Alabama Board of Nursing, any nurse who does not renew their license before 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2024, will have their license lapse. Nurses will ‘no longer be legally authorized to practice with a lapsed nursing license.’
1. What are the CE Requirements for the 2024 Alabama nursing license renewal period?
LPNs, RNs, and APRNs must complete 24 contact hours of continuing education every two years. Four of the hours must be on the “Board-provided continuing education (the Mandatory course) related to Board functions, the Nurse Practice Act, regulations, professional conduct, and accountability,” according to the Alabama BON. Nursing CE Central provides a link to this course in the bundle.
Nursing CE Central’s Alabama Renewal Bundle includes LPN license renewal CE and RN license renewal CE.
APRNs in collaborative practice must complete three-and-a-half Alabama BON-provided contact hours on collaborative practice, approval process and protocols in the state of Alabama.
APRNs renewing a Qualified Alabama Controlled Substances Certificate (QACSC) must complete four American Medical Association (AMA) Physician’s Recognition Award (PRA) Category 1 board-approved contact hours on prescribing controlled substances every two years.
Six contact hours must be in pharmacology.
Four of the 24 contact hours must be on The Nurse Practice Act as part of a one-time requirement.

4. Does Nursing CE Central submit proof of completed CEUs automatically to the Alabama Board of Nursing?
Yes. As an Alabama BON-approved CE provider, Nursing CE Central automatically reports all CEU completions directly to the BON.
5. Do I need to have a record of my completed CE?
