2024 West Virginia Nursing License Renewal Requirements

Nurses have many responsibilities and one of those is renewing their licenses on time. The 2024 West Virginia nursing license renewal period is right around the corner, so there is not much time left to investigate updated renewal information.

That’s why our team has put together this article. It includes the last day to renew, contact hour requirements, and the consequences of missing the deadline.

If you don’t renew on time, then your license will lapse, and you won’t be able to practice nursing.

1. What are the 2024 CE Requirements for Renewal?

RNs must complete 12 hours of CEUs. Of the 12 hours of required continuing education for renewal, three must be for drug diversion training (one-time requirement).

Nursing CE Central’s 2024 West Virginia Renewal Bundle includes all required CE courses for RNs.

LPNs are required to complete 24 hours of continuing education every two years. Of the 24 hours, two must be on mental health conditions common to veterans and their families, three must be on substance abuse, and two must be on end-of-life care (one-time requirement).

2. Which Nurses Are Required to Obtain CEUs to Renew Their License?

RNs renew on a two-year cycle as of August 2022 and their licenses are due for renewal in even-numbered years. They’re required to complete CE for the 2024 license renewal period.

LPNs renew their licenses annually. However, they only need to report continuing education units every other renewal or every two years. Please confirm directly with the WV Board of Examiners for LPNs to verify if you must report continuing education this year if you are unsure. Their email is [email protected].

3. Do I Need to Take a Test to Complete the 2024 West Virginia Nursing License Renewal Requirements?

No, you don’t need to complete a test to fulfill your nursing continuing education requirements for renewal.

4. Do Nurses Need to Submit Their CEUs Through CE Broker?

RNs must submit their continuing education through CE Broker. Nursing CE Central automatically and instantaneously reports all completed certificates to them. Nurses who use a different CEU provider may need to submit their credits to CE Broker manually.

LPNs don’t have to submit their continuing education through CE Broker and only need to attest to CEU completion to the board.
