California Nursing CEU Requirements: 30 contact hours of continuing education prior to license renewal.

A licensee still within the first 2 years of holding their license, immediately following their initial licensure, must complete one hour of direct participation in an implicit bias course offered by a continuing education provider (such as Nursing CE Central). This can count towards your 30 CE requirements.

Can I complete my courses online?

Yes- California allows nurses to complete courses online or in-person. There are no restrictions on the number of contact hours you can earn online.

What do I need to renew my license?

You will need 30 contact hours of continuing education.  A licensee still within the first 2 years of holding their license, immediately following their initial licensure, must complete one hour of direct participation in an implicit bias course offered by a continuing education provider. When you renew, you will be asked to enter information from these certificates in the Breeze system.

Are certificates sent directly to the BRN?

No- the BRN does not allow us to send certificates directly to them. Instead, they will request copies of the certificate from you and/or us if required.

How long does it take to complete courses?

One contact hour would take the average learner 50-60 minutes to complete. The courses are not times and you may complete them at your leisure.

What is the Breeze system?

The Breeze system is California’s system utilized for license renewal. It can be accessed online and allows for nurses to renew their license electronically.
